Ian Watkins Director

Ian is a larger than life character (literally). Goodness knows what he was raised on, but he certainly rose for a career in The Marine Industry. With over 20 years under his belt, and an ever-increasing appetite for all things related to boats of all shapes and sizes, Ian is without doubt a heavyweight with tons of experience. 16 years ago, Ian was picked up by Ancasta (NOT literally) where he successfully ran the Hythe, Brighton & Poole offices. This was followed by a brief encounter with the Middle East, which led to running the UK sales operation for Hunter Legend yachts, before teaming up with Andy to set up Why Yachting International in 2011. An unmissable sight at the Southampton and London Boat shows, Ian is never far short of being on hand to offer helpful advice.

In his spare time, he will be found somewhere South of the Needles with a fishing rod in a futile and unproductive search for his supper!

Andy Hyland Director

After a successful career in the Financial Services sector Andrew decided he wanted to re-calculate his career path and so embarked upon being a yacht broker some 8 years ago. In total he spent seven great years at Ancasta in Lymington, where he not only became a familiar figure on the River, he also notched up some impressive sales figures in the office. A brief switch to Dickies took him to Swanwick on the Hamble where he fine tuned his sales prowess before bumping into (literally) his business partner Ian. Together they are masterminding a whole new experience in yacht broking.

In his spare time Andy can be found with his head buried deep into the encyclopaedia of yachts or fully immersed in his passion for dinghy sailing. Once a budding Olympian with National titles behind him Andy is now a blossoming Director of a growing business with a great future ahead.

Mike Horseman Marketing

A canny Geordie from way up North brought up on a diet of coal and nurtured on the terraces of St James's Park in Newcastle. Mike has been involved in boating almost since the day the Ark was launched. He spent most of his childhood cruising The North Sea and the Western Isles of Scotland in such classics as Silver Gentlemen's yachts, Grand Banks and converted Motor torpedo Boats. (all owned by his Father.) In later Years he chose a career in the creative industry and honed his colouring in skills at Norwich School of Art followed by a successful career in Advertising & Marketing.

After a brief encounter with Andrew & Ian he accepted an offer to join Why Boats as their Creative Director of Marketing where he will offer a ship full of ideas to help steer the brand into The 21st Century and beyond. In his spare time Mike can be seen at the helm of his beloved Grand Banks "Toy Buoy" or watching old episodes of When The Boat Comes In!!!

Justin Carson Sales Manager N.I.

Heading up the Irish sales area, Justin has had a varied work life in Retail management and more recently the textile industry. Dabbling part-time in internet sales and with strong IT skills he can relate the whyboats 21st Century selling concept to the client. Justin was born in Bangor Northern Ireland and having strong family ties in Co Fermanagh, famous for it's Lakelands, boating and the water have always been close to Justin's heart.

Justin has been floating around NI's stunning waterways for many years exploring all the hidden gem’s, meeting like- minded boaters and sharing his witty Irish charm! Justin’s boating experience started in a 17 ft Lough Erne rowing boat since he could carry a Seagull engine, then the family Birchwood cruiser and since his 21st birthday he has owned 5 Fletchers, 2 Sea Rays, a vintage mastercraft and now a Corvette 32. When not networking for Whyboats (is that ever?) Justin can be found cruising on Lough Erne, wakeboarding, being King of the BBQ (or so he thinks) and socialising with friends.

Ollie Maguire Yacht Broker

Not as green behind the ears as his mugshot below suggests, Oliver has now been with us for some time now and is settling in nicely as a very credible young Broker. After leaving his milk drinking schooldays behind and not getting the call from Southampton FC, Ollie decided to swap football boots for deck shoes and embark upon a Rum drinking career at sea. After graduating from Warsash Maritime Academy as a Deck Officer cadet he was welcomed aboard The Sea Truck ferry to swab the decks between Blighty and The Emerald Isle.

After a year at sea he decided that Rum drinking and shanty singing was not for him he promptly jumped ship and is now pursuing a career as a Broker selling yachts with WhyBoats. Away from the office you can find him either dribbling on a football pitch somewhere in Hampshire or dribbling outside a Nightclub looking for a McDonalds in Southampton.

Caroline Kitching Office Manager

Caroline is a full on Yorkshire Lass but moved South in early 2015 to try and find warmer climes. Having been giving a lecture on tight book keeping and office housekeeping we thought she would be ideal to make sure the rest of the team toe the line and keep our office efficient and running like a well oiled machine. With a background in office administration her experience has proven invaluable to ensure the rest of us concentrate on selling boats.

In her spare time she is being run ragged by two spritely young girls and as a dedicated mum she doesn’t have any spare time. Secretly we know she is a party animal. When sailing Caroline has proved that humans can be like Chameleons and quickly change colour into an interesting shade of green.

Tim Norris

Tim has grown up on the Hamble since he was a young lad. Sailing Dinghies and yachts, with the odd motor boat too. Boats and water sports is all he seems to be able to talk about. With Racing well and truly in his blood, Tim is the man to talk racing boats with!

Graduating from Plymouth University with many Rum sailing days under his belt, he can’t seem to stay off boats (or boards!)

When not in the office, you can find him on any boat that will take, or if a storm is coming through then spot the crazy windsurfer
